Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 14, 2026
This policy explains what information Permit Practice Test (permitpractice.us) handles when you use the site, in plain terms. Permit Practice Test is an independent study site and is not a government agency.
The short version
- You do not need an account, and we never ask for your name to take a practice test.
- Your scores, missed questions and test date are saved in your own browser, not in an account on our server.
- Some features send limited information to our server: anonymous answer statistics, ratings, question reports, discussion posts and contact messages. The details are below.
- We use Google Analytics to measure visits, and Google AdSense for advertising. Both use cookies, and you can opt out.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information saved in your browser
To make the site work without an account, these items are stored in your browser's local storage on your own device:
- the state you last practised;
- your recent test results (up to 30) and your missed questions (up to 120), for the My Progress and review pages;
- a test you paused, so you can resume it;
- your exam date and the days you practised, if you use the countdown and streak;
- which explanations you marked helpful;
- if you use discussions or votes: the nickname you typed and a random anonymous token that tells our server the same browser is returning.
You can erase all of it at any time with “Clear all progress” on the My Progress page, or by clearing site data in your browser. The backup file you can download there is created on your device and is not sent to us.
Information that reaches our server
- Answer statistics. When you finish a test, the site sends which answer option was chosen for each question, and which state's test it was. It is stored without anything that identifies you; we use the totals to spot confusing questions and to find the questions learners in each state miss most.
- Ratings and “was this helpful” votes. The rating or vote, and a comment if you add one.
- Question reports. The question you reported and any note you wrote. Reports are anonymous and are emailed to our team.
- Discussion posts. Your nickname and what you wrote. Approved posts are public, so do not include personal details. The email field is optional; we do not store the address itself, only a one-way hash of it.
- Contact form. The name, email address and message you send. It is stored in our inbox and emailed to our mailbox so we can reply.
- Abuse prevention. For votes, reports, posts and forms we keep the anonymous browser token and a one-way, salted hash of your IP address (not the address itself). The salt changes every month and the hashes are removed from our records after 30 days. Forms are also protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a visitor is not a bot.
- Server logs. Like every website, our server records the IP address, browser type and pages requested. These logs are kept for about a week and are used for security and troubleshooting.
Cookies
We do not set our own cookies for visitors. Cookies on this site come from the services below: Google Analytics, Google's advertising services when ads are shown, and Cloudflare Turnstile when a form is checked. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the practice tests still work without them.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are visited and from what kind of device. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects usage data, which Google processes on our behalf. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising
Permit Practice Test is free and is supported by advertising. We use, or plan to use, Google AdSense to show ads.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of some other vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
- Where the law requires it, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before advertising cookies are used.
Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information. We use a small number of service providers to run the site, and they process information only for that purpose:
- Hostinger - website hosting;
- Namecheap - the mailbox that receives contact messages and reports;
- Google - Analytics and AdSense, as described above;
- Cloudflare - Turnstile bot protection on forms.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep information
- IP-address hashes: removed after 30 days. Server logs: about a week.
- Contact messages: until we have dealt with your request, and deleted on request.
- Discussion posts, ratings and reports: for as long as they are useful to other learners or to fixing the question, and deleted on request.
- Data in your browser: until you clear it.
Your choices and rights
- Clear the data in your browser at any time (see above).
- Ask us to delete a contact message or a discussion post you wrote, or ask what we hold about you, by emailing hello@permitpractice.us. Tell us the nickname and the question, or the email address you used, so we can find it.
- Opt out of analytics and personalised advertising using the links above.
Depending on where you live, for example in the EEA, the UK or some US states including California, you may have legal rights to access, correct or delete your personal information and to object to certain uses. We will honour valid requests sent to the address above.
Children's privacy
The site is meant for people preparing for a learner's permit, who are usually 14 or older, and for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information through the contact form or a discussion post, email us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
