Free Utah DLD Test Simulator 2026
This DMV Test Simulator is modeled on the Driver License Division (DLD) written knowledge exam, which has 50 questions; to pass you need 40 of 50 correct (80%). It is a mock test: 50 questions, the length of the real test, scored to the 80% pass mark. Answers are marked only when you submit the whole test, then you review every question with its explanation. Every question includes an explanation, so you learn the rule behind each answer - not just whether you got it right.
Utah DLD mock test
Answer all 50 questions first. Nothing is marked until you submit the whole test, so the score shows how ready you are, and then you review every answer with its explanation.
- 50 questions, the same number as the real test
- To pass: 40 of 50 correct (80%)
- Skip, go back and change answers until you submit
- Unanswered questions count as wrong

The real Utah knowledge test has 50 questions. You can miss up to 10 of the 50 questions and still pass. The minimum is 40 correct answers (80%). The simulator draws a fresh set from all 200 Utah permit questions each time, so no two attempts are the same.

Want to test yourself first? Take the test above before reading these. Every answer below is checked against the source shown.
1. Utah law bans parking within how many feet of a stop sign, yield sign, flashing beacon, or traffic signal?
- A. 20 feet
- B. 30 feet (correct)
- C. 15 feet
- D. 50 feet
Why: Utah bans parking within 30 feet of a flashing beacon, stop sign, yield sign, or traffic control signal. Other distances apply to fire hydrants (15 feet) and crosswalks (20 feet).

2. When you must stop at a railroad crossing in Utah, how far from the nearest rail should your vehicle be?
- A. Between 5 and 10 feet
- B. Between 50 and 100 feet
- C. Between 15 and 50 feet (correct)
- D. Between 10 and 20 feet
Why: Stop no closer than 15 feet and no farther than 50 feet from the nearest rail, and wait until it is safe to cross. If there is a gate, wait for it to rise.

3. If your vehicle's engine catches fire, you should:
- A. Open the hood to reach the fire quickly
- B. Stop, shut off the engine, and get everyone away (correct)
- C. Drive on to the nearest fire station
- D. Stay in the car with the windows up until help comes
Why: If your engine catches fire, pull off the road, shut off the engine, and get all occupants out and well away from the vehicle. Do NOT open the hood - adding oxygen can intensify the fire. Call 911.

4. A yellow sign with a black arrow bending at a 90-degree angle indicates:
- A. A gentle curve
- B. A sharp turn ahead (correct)
- C. A side road ahead
- D. A lane shift ahead
Why: A sharp-angle arrow warns of a sharp turn (not a gentle curve) ahead. Slow down significantly before the turn - the recommended speed is often posted below.

5. A driver ahead holds their left arm straight out of the window like this. What does it mean?
- A. They will turn left (correct)
- B. They will turn right
- C. They will slow down or stop
- D. You may pass them now
Why: Drivers use hand signals when their turn signals or brake lights do not work. The left arm held straight out means a left turn.

6. What does a flashing red light mean?
- A. Slow down and proceed with caution
- B. Stop, then go when it is safe (correct)
- C. Stop and wait for the light to turn green
- D. Yield, but stop only if cars are coming
Why: A flashing red light must be treated exactly like a stop sign. Come to a complete stop, check for traffic and pedestrians, then proceed when safe.
